Face Oil

There is a lot of information out there about face oils.  The general consensus may understand the idea of face oil if your skin is dry…but why add oil to an already oily face?  Without digging too deep into the chemistry, here is the basic idea.

Our skin is made up of cells and spaces between the cells holding it all together.  Picture a brick and mortar wall.  The mortar protects the bricks from outside forces.  Our skin does the same thing.  Skin cells secrete an oil called sebum, there are other fats and oils produced by the connective tissue called lipids.  The combination of these create a protective layer against the environment that wants to strip the skin of moisture.  Without these lipids, the spaces between the cells can separate causing water to be pulled from your skin.  This can cause dry, flakey skin.  The skin may not produce enough oils to keep the outer layer functioning properly.

In the event of oily skin, too much sebum is produced.  A lot of people fall into the trap of not moisturizing because their skin is too oily.  Go back to the brick and mortar, the cells (bricks) produce sebum.  If the mortar is not producing enough lipids for protection, the cells produce more sebum…vicious cycle.  They key is to hydrate by using oils that have a molecular level small enough to break through the protective barrier produced by the skin.  This can help repair the connective tissue (mortar) and help slow down the production of too much sebum.   The oils found in this recipe have the appropriate molecular components to accomplish a smooth, soft finish.
